A new edition of 'Quotations of Chairman Mao(《毛泽东选集》)' is to be released on the 120th anniversary of the Great Helmsman's birth, Takungpao reports.
Over five billion copies Mao Zedong's 'little red book' have been printed since it was first published in the 1960s, making it second only to the Bible in the list of the world's most popular books. The 2013 anniversary edition is being edited by colonel Chen Yu of the People's Liberation Army Military Academy of Sciences. According to insiders, Mao's opus is little changed, with some "outdated content" being removed and some "new content" added (how, it is unclear, since Mao has been dead since 1976).
Celebrations are due to take place at Beijing's Great Hall of the People to mark the late leader's 120th birthday, though reports suggest that this will be a comparatively restrained affair.
Looks like we were wrong about 'The Hu Jintao Symposium' being the most exciting publishing news of the year.
