Ⅲ An embarrassing encounter

My foray into the online search of compatibility got off to a stuttering start.

Interestingly, I’ve been addicted to logging onto the website every day as it is quite exciting to go through a dazzling array of match profiles and send them messages, despite most of my messages going unanswered (only premium members can read them).

I would generally not go for a 20-year-old marvel or reply to a message from a 41-year-old divorcee,  – I was surprised at my charisma then. Fortunately, I stopped receiving messages from such people after I narrowed down my match settings in terms of age and marital status.

Traversing an intriguing terrain

The compatibility search online is largely about physical chemistry based on profiles. You can make a decision within a few quick blinks but you may also miss the right one for the same reason.

It wasn’t long before a lovely looking girl nicknamed  H responded. H, 24, 165cm, is neither glamorous nor sexy but she is fairly cute according to her avatar. She told me she is a teacher at a kindergarten in Chaoyang district and she loves children very much.

We were on a roll the following days. She said she is from Handan, Hebei Province and now lives in Chaowai SOHO, a property located in the center of CBD. After a few exchanges, we decided to meet in person.

It was a rainy Tuesday evening when Beijing’s temperature dived from 15 to 5. It was not my first date with a girl but I was like a fevered NPC deputy going to the Congress with elaborate proposals. But for the shower and chill, I nearly set myself ablaze.

I got to the destination on time while she was on her way. It calmed me down watching the continuing raindrops for 20 minutes and an increasing hunger kept me on tenterhooks.

She didn’t respond to my text messages nor answer my call until I delivered my ultimatum  “I braved the rain to come here but you have kept me waiting for an hour... I’m leaving.”

Then came the ring and a tall and stout woman in black stood in front of me. I summoned up my last bit of energy to crack a smile to H, whose only feature that agrees with her profile is the black hair.

Both of us appeared to be embarrassed, and we didn’t have dinner, not even a drink.

The website administrator sent me a warning a week after my encounter with H. “H has violated the rules of the website and is suspected of fraud (her motive is not to find a boyfriend). She has been blacklisted. Please be cautious,” read the warning.

Thank God, at least she is not a bar shill. I’m still undeterred in my quest for Ms right.
