Siren of short-lived E Fang Gong Palace

The E Fang Gong tourist attraction, which was constructed thirteen years ago in Xi'an, northwest China's Shaanxi province, is soon to be demolished, Xinhua news agency reports.

Considered to be the glory of the Qin dynasty (221 BC to 207 BC), the imperial E Fang Gong palace was one of the country's greatest architectural masterpieces.

Situated about 200 meters away from the historical heritage site, the reproduction tourist attraction once attracted as many as 100,000 tourists per year.

The ancient ruins of E Fang Gong palace were confirmed after an archaeological excavation started in 2002. Construction of a ruins park is currently on the agenda.

"The E Fang Gong tourist sight was created by imagination and differs from the imperial complex. It is, moreover, situated in the protective area of the ancient ruins", according to Li Yufen, researcher of the Institute of Archaeology, China's Academy of Social Sciences (CASS)

Experts say the short-lived E Fang Gong tourist attraction provides lessons on the booming market for artificial reproductions of famous historical scenic spots.
