'Belt and Road' construction a path to community of common destiny

In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the important "Belt and Road" initiative with the principles of "wide consultation", "joint contribution" and "shared benefit". Earlier this year, at the World Economic Forum in Davos and the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva, President Xi put forward the idea of building the community of common destiny, indicating the new thinking of China's diplomacy since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012. The idea can also be seen as China's efforts to integrate into globalization and its deep participation in the global governance.

Along with its own development strategy, the "Belt and Road" initiative is one of China's policies to offer the global public products, especially when the anti-globalization and populist sentiments are gaining ground. Currently, the "Belt and Road" initiative is well recognized by the international community and is joined by more than 100 countries and international organizations. China and nearly 40 countries have signed cooperation agreements, with international capacity cooperation involving some 30 countries. The collaboration helps promote the development of the new-type of international financial institutions such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

Combating anti-globalization and rejuvenating Chinese nation

Standing on the new starting point of the Chinese and world history, President Xi charted a new blueprint for the global governance, which is supported by the "Belt and Road" strategy that features the establishment of the global partnership and the community of common destiny.

Based on the great achievements made by the reform and opening up policy, China is on a mission to rejuvenate the Chinese nation, which is driven by innovation and coordinated development. The "Belt and Road" initiative is an innovation of the global governance, whose core goals include promoting "common development", "common progress" and "common wealth" and establishing the community of common destiny by combating the anti-globalization sentiment. Therefore, the "Belt and Road" initiative reflects the high consistency between the interests of China and the international community.

Promoting openness and inclusiveness of shared globalization

Globalization offers a driving force for the free flows of global capital, labor and resources as well as the liberalization of the world trade and investment, promoting the interdependence of different countries, as the international cooperation in areas of politics, security, technology, culture and education are becoming deeper and deeper.

The aim of the "Belt and Road" initiative is to enhance the openness and inclusiveness of a shared globalization, which needs a sound international environment and the participation by all the countries. The openness and inclusiveness can be proved by the connection of the sea and land routes in Eurasia.

The "Belt and Road" initiative also provides a feasible approach for the human beings to build the community of common destiny. Global governance is not only a management about the world economy, but also a management about politics, security, military, network and culture.

Problems that "Belt and Road" strategy can solve

First, with the world economy transforming into one more driven by innovation and technology, the "Belt and Road" strategy can offer a new driving force for the growth of the global economy.

Second, the "Belt and Road" strategy can help solve the problem of global economic imbalance, preventing different countries from being fragmented and isolated, as the world needs common and balanced development.

Third, different countries should put the adjustment of global governance on their agendas, with the goal of building a fair, just and reasonable global governance system under the principles of "wide consultation", "joint contribution" and "shared benefit", ending the era when strong powers ravaged the weak ones.

Fourth, global development should enjoy an important position in the global governance, which was highlighted at last year's G20 summit held in China's Hangzhou. The root cause of the anti-globalization sentiment is that the global development cannot benefit all the people.
