Trump's victory makes history in US politics

Donald Trump, the dark horse presidential candidate, has been elected the next president of the US, beating previous expectations by political experts and mainstream media and making history in the American politics.

Trump, 70, is the oldest president-elect in the American history. Ronald Reagan was elected at the age of 69.

This year's election saw the highest-ever spending in history. According to media reports, Trump and his competitor Hillary Clinton spent $6.9 billion combined on their campaigns, contributing to the development of industries of tourism, advertisement and entertainment.

This 2016 race also presented a wide political divide. In previous presidential elections, the political views of voters were basically the same with that of the political party they supported. However, in the 2016 presidential election, many undereducated white people and economic losers cast their votes for Trump, a populist.
