The road from Ludian to Longtoushan Township has been under traffic control due to the huge number of vehicles flooding to the epicenter. Only rescue cars were allowed to drive in as thousands of people rode motorcycles or labored their way to Longtoushan, which is about 23 km from Ludian.
The earthquake has killed 410 people as of 4 pm, August 5 and injured 2373.
Two Sino-US.com reporters started off early morning and has been walking more than four hours on their way to the epicenter Longtoushan Township on August 5. Their effort was hampered by two landslides on the way.
The clogged traffic also prevented excavators from going deep into the quake-stricken area. Men from nearby villages were seen walking to Longtoushan holding spades and torches.
Buses from Ludian were also used to whisk volunteers to Longtoushan.
