Chen Yucun, the director of the Fuzhou Panda World, says a series of activities will be held from May 22 to November to celebrate the 35th birthday of Basi, who is the oldest panda on the Chinese mainland and far surpasses the normal panda life expectancy of 12 years. Panpan was the mascot of the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing. Taiwan painters and calligraphers will also present Basi-themed works in the celebration.
