Xi Jinping elected general secretary of CPC Central Committee

Xi Jinping was elected general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and named chairman of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Military Commission at the first plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee Thursday morning.

Other members of the newly elected Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 18th CPC Central Committee are Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan, and Zhang Gaoli.

Fan Changlong and Xu Qiliang were named vice chairmen of the CPC Central Military Commission.

Wang Qishan was elected secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the plenary session of the CCDI, at which the CCDI also elected its deputy secretaries and Standing Committee members. The elections were then approved at the first plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee.

The seven newly-elected members of the Standing Committee of the 18th CPC Central Committee Political Bureau then meet the reporters at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing led by Xi Jinping.
